Fan portraits, interesting t-shirts

Fan portraits, t-shirts and a slice of my birthday pizza!

This fellow shows up in the book Wrigley Field A Celebration of the Friendly Confines. Is that a Montreal Expos cap?

Not Cubs related, I just thought it was a cute shirt.

More people pictures, foul ball, etc.

$3 for a bottle of water.
Who knew something could offer more profit then selling bagged ice?

Cubs 14 Marlins 3

This was quite a game, so I asked a gentleman nearby if I could photograph his scorecard. Below is a closer view of the Cubs half.

Signs of a win

Signs of a win

Please understand, the players' reception after a victory is my favorite part of the game.
I love seeing the happy expressions on their faces after a win.
WGN, ESPN, Comcast, Fox - please remember to include this in your game coverage.
This is not the time for a tv commercial.
Thanks for listening.

Either that or the Cubs uniforms have really changed.

National Anthem

Kathleen and Wayne Messmer sing the National Anthem

Ryne and Andre stepping over the line...

Here's what caught my eye regarding this photo...

Ernie, Billy, Ryno and Ron

The four Cubs with retired jersey numbers pose for a photo.

Ernie Banks, Billy William, Ryne Sandberg and Ron Santo.

Pictures of Ryne Sandberg and Billy Williams from way back when...

Ryne's speech, walk around the park

"I love you Ryno"

Ryne and his wife toured the park including the grandstand.
You could follow their progress by watching the crowd's reaction.
Here they are walking above us on the catwalk on their way to the WGN booth for the 7th inning stretch.

Wow! When Ryno shouts "Let's get some runs!", the Cubs really listen.

Jersey Retirement Ceremony part 1

5 herald trumpeteers fanfare the occasion.
(Only 4 shown in picture)

Margaret Sandberg and her husband, Ryne.

Guests (Ron, Bobby, Yosh, Andre, Gary)

Ron Santo is introduced at the ceremony.
Do you see his flag flying on the poll behind him?

Cubs long, long time employee Yosh Kawano.

Wayne Messmer chats with Gary Matthews.

Bobby Dernier makes his entrance.

Andre Dawson before the ceremony.

Last year on Disney Day, Mickey Mouse threw out the first pitch, and the Cubs lost to the Astros 15-7. Mickey needs to be traded to the Cardinals.

This year Popeye threw out a ceremonial first pitch and the Cubs won 14-3 vs. the Marlins. I think Popeye needs to be invited back.

Come to think of it though, Ryne Sandberg threw out the first pitch this year before the Cubs 16-6 win over the Diamondbacks on opening day.

Ryno threw the ball from 2nd base to Mark Grace at first for an unusual ceremonial first pitch.

And Ryne also threw out a first pitch on Ryno day and the Cubs win 14-3. Hmmm.

BTW, when is Yosh going to throw out a first pitch?

23418: The GameThe Game

By Robert Benson

In The Game, Robert Benson ties the nine innings of one ordinary minor-league game between the Iowa Cubs and the Nashville Sounds to the ordinary and not-so-ordinary innings of his own life. He shows how, through a series of seeminly routine plays in an average weeknight game such as this one--just as in our everday lives--we eventually win the game.
In beautifully measured prosed he also describes moments of greatness--the Giants' dramatic ninth-inning penant win over the Dodgers in 1951; Sammy Sosa's breaking Roger Maris's home-run record in 1999--and the subtle way in which these moments mark themselves in the life of an average American baseball fan.
Whether he is hitting fungoes with his children at a neighborhood park, reminiscing about Carlton Fisk's famous home-run trot in October 1975, or praising the enduring beauty of Chicago's Wrigley Field, Benson reveals that "the game" and the game of life are in many ways one and the same.

Aug 28 Ryno Day Bleacher photos

I admit it.

When I go to a game I look for myself in pictures.

There just aren't enough crowd pics out there.

Did you sit in the bleachers on Ryno day?

See if you can find yourself in the pictures below.
